Our little family tradition is to usually buy a good old Freddo ice cream cake for family birthdays HOWEVER, I really wanted to try a drip cake loaded up with Brandt's favourite lollies - and certainly one of the perks of owning a lolly shop is having access to amazing lollies and chocolates!
So I looked through Pinterest, sussed our Brandt's favourite lollies and had a visual of just how I wanted the cake to look!
But my plans went south when I ran out of time to bake a cake and... with our family birthday dinner fast approaching, I was desperate to find as plain a cake as possible that I could decorate!
A big thank you to Sweet Tradition's team member Capri (and Brandt's little sister!) who tracked down Michels Patisserie and after a chat with the chef he said he had a ready to go cake he had just iced but hadn't decorated and we were welcome to buy it. It was covered in chocolate ganache with some chocolate swirls.
So we went from this...
NOT REALLY WHAT I WAS AFTER BUT DETERMINED TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT..
Ditched the chocolate drip idea and loaded her up with a ton of lollies and lollipops!
Brandt's favourite lollies are: sour straps, sour worms, sour geckos (yeah, he's a sour fan) and UFO/Flying saucers so I made sure it was chock full of those treats..
and I added 100s & 1000s and gumballs plus two of our small rainbow lollipops! And well, it wasn't at all what I was intending but it was certainly a fun and well tasty cake!
Inside was a vanilla double sponge with jam and cream and white chocolate ganache icing with white chocolate shavings.
